Programme: Haydn: Piano Trio in A Hob. XV:18 Chopin: Piano trio in G minor Op.8 Rowland-Jones: Piano Trio No.1 ‘Holkham Beach’ Schumann: Piano Trio No.2 in F Op.80
Each with their own busy performing careers, Ruth Rogers, Katherine Jenkinson and Martin Cousin decided to form their own piano trio in 2009. They now perform regularly at leading venues in the UK. They began the 2018 season with a performance at Kings Place, London, the first in a series of three featuring Haydn and Schumann piano trios as well as more contemporary additions to the repertoire. Other highlights include concerts at Conway Hall, London and at the Chipping Campden Festival. They made their debut as a trio at Wigmore Hall in 2009 and will be back there for a concert in November 2018. Their recording of the Mendelssohn trios was chosen as Recording of the Month by The Strad. They will play a late Haydn trio composed in London for the wife of the composer’s patron Princess Marie Hermenegild Esterházy; Chopin’s rarely heard trio, a delightful and surprisingly grand musical canvas for a nineteen-year-old; Simon Rowland-Jones’s first trio inspired by a very snowy Holkham Beach in February 2012 and lastly Schumann’s marvellous second trio which he said “makes a friendlier and more immediate impression” than his first, indeed one of the most appealing of all his chamber works.
