The Green Britain Centre
We understand that The Green Britain Centre is closed until further notice see their website for further information.
There are 300 steps to climb but you can stop on landings to catch your breathe and the effort to get to the top of this windmill, the first Megawatt producing mill in Britain, is so worth it.
It is a truly awe inspiring feat and once you get to the top there is a glass encased viewing platform, designed by Sir Norman Foster. The view is incredible and you get to experience wind energy in a totally different way.
Tours are really popular so we recommend that you book yours in advance. Each tour lasts 40 minutes to an hour on average. Call 01760 726100 or email us to book your tour.
There is a 'keep your feet on the ground' tour which is perfect if you or your group have people with limited mobility and children under seven or less than 120cm in height.
The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes and includes a talk from our windmill expert and the opportunity to ask questions. Learn how the windmill works, when it was built and how much energy it generates and you can just pop inside for a quick look too.

There are many other things to do and see such as looking at the Greenbird, the World record holding, fastest wind powered vehicle on the planet, or you can wander through our Organic Gardens and Orchard, bump into the only Windmill Blade to survive an ‘alien abduction’ and find out the true story behind that. You can watch our giant solar tracker as it follows the sun across the sky and harnesses it’s power to make clean energy.
After the tour, refresh at our Cafe which serves locally sourced organic food – so local, in fact, that it often travels no further than from our back garden.
And no trip is complete without a visit to Ecotopia our shop, which harnesses the power of shopping to change the world. Everything here supports a better way of doing things – whether it's local, Fairtrade, organic or sustainably sourced – there's a social, ethical or environmental benefit inherent in everything we sell.
Please call us in advance on 01760 726100 or use the contact form on our website if you'd like to book a windmill visit.
